Strainsense’s comprehensive test and measurement product range includes bench top, rack mount and portable power analyzers, ideal for Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) and Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) research and development (R&D) and production test.

Power analyzers are used to measure the power and energy output, efficiency and power quality of electric vehicle drivetrains. Strainsense’s power analyzers are ideal for both test laboratory and vehicle use. This ensures consistency of data collection and reporting through a test program. The native Oxygen power analysis software measures key parameters including power, power factor, power quality and efficiency on BEVs and FCEVs.

Our latest power analyzer is the LITE-PA 4 or 8 channel power analyzer (see image below). It has isolated voltage inputs up to 1kV RMS with CAT III 1000V safety rating and isolated current inputs for use with external current clamps or up to 20A RMS direct. These inputs measure all current and future EV drive systems. Sample rate is 2 MHz per channel with 18-bit resolution. It has advanced counter encoder inputs for speed and torque to measure mechanical power in sync.

Power accuracy is 0.04% from 0.5 Hz to 1 kHz, ideal for variable speed drive testing with high accuracy. Key features include real time efficiency mapping, harmonics analysis, and PDF report export. Data is displayed on the built-in multi touch high-definition screen and can be viewed remotely. Test bed interfaces include CAN, Ethernet and USB.

For measurement of more than 8 power phases and measurement of vibration, our modular DEWE3 power analyzers are available. These systems support up to 16 power phases and IEPE inputs for accelerometers, microphones and NVH analysis, as well as a built-in current sensor power. Our product range also includes wideband, lightweight, miniature accelerometers, ideal for vibration testing of BEVs and FCEVs.

The LITE-PA and DEWE3 power analyzers can be expanded with our low-speed XR modules (see image below) for the acquisition of temperature, current, voltage or RTD. All different types support either RS-485 or CAN data output. Each of the 8 measurement channels has its own A/D converter with a sampling rate of up to 200 Hz. XR module data is displayed and stored in the same data file as power data for ease of use.
