Unamplified Charge Mode
Charge mode accelerometers are unamplified piezoelectric sensors used to measure vibration in harsh environments. The simple construction and lack of internal electronics allows for use in high temperature environments, up to 250 Deg C.
A charge mode accelerometer can be constructed using several basic designs, with the forces applied to the sensing element through compression, sheer or bending. Sheer is the most common option, used as it isolates the sensing element from the case, preventing external factors influencing the output. Where high sensitivity is needed, such as low range seismic sensors, bending designs may be used.
