Board Mount Pressure Sensors

A board mount or board mountable pressure sensor or pressure transducer is typically mounted onto a printed circuit board (PCB) and used to measure the pressure of gases or liquids. The media to be measured is transferred to the sensor via a small plastic tube or the pressure sensor needs to be in contact with the media to be measured such as a barometric air pressure sensor, air flow, pitot tube pressure Pressure sensors options include gauge, absolute or ultra low pressure differential pressure reference and usually from 2 inch of water column to a maximum of 300 PSI. The sensing technology used is Piezoresistive or MEMS (micro-electromechanical system) which is effectively a strain gauge whose resistance changes due to pressure variances. Pressure transducers are available with analogue or digital I2C or SPI interfaces.

Frequently Asked Questions About Board Mount Pressure Sensors

Need Help with Board Mount Pressure Sensors?

Learn about board mount pressure sensors, their applications, specifications, and how to integrate them into your electronic systems.

Board mount sensors are electronic devices designed to detect and measure various physical properties or environmental conditions. These sensors are specifically created to be mounted directly onto circuit boards or PCBs (Printed Circuit Boards). They are used in a wide range of applications across industries such as automotive, aerospace, consumer electronics, healthcare, industrial automation, and more.

These sensors typically utilize various technologies such as piezoresistive, capacitive, or piezoelectric principles to measure pressure. Changes in pressure cause alterations in specific physical properties, which the sensor detects and converts into electrical signals that can be processed by electronic devices.

These sensors find applications in diverse industries such as automotive, aerospace, medical devices, industrial automation, HVAC systems, and consumer electronics. They're used for pressure monitoring, control systems, environmental monitoring, and more.

Board mount pressure sensors can measure different types of pressure, including absolute pressure (measured relative to a perfect vacuum), gauge pressure (measured relative to atmospheric pressure), and differential pressure (measured between two pressure points).

The accuracy of these sensors can vary based on their design, specifications, and intended applications. Generally, they can offer high accuracy and precision, but specific sensor models might have varying degrees of accuracy, often specified in percentage of full-scale output or pressure range.

When choosing a pressure sensor, factors like pressure range, accuracy, response time, temperature range, output type (analog or digital), size, power consumption, and environmental conditions compatibility are crucial to consider for your application's requirements.

Calibration ensures accuracy. Some sensors come pre-calibrated, while others might need calibration before use. Calibration involves comparing the sensor's output against a known standard and adjusting the sensor to match the standard. Manufacturers often provide guidelines or tools for calibration.

Yes, most board mount pressure sensors come with standardized interfaces (such as I2C, SPI, or analog outputs) making them compatible with a wide range of microcontrollers and circuit boards commonly used in electronic systems.

Issues such as drift in accuracy over time, sensitivity to environmental factors like temperature and humidity, electrical interference, and physical damage can affect the performance of board mount pressure sensors.

Some sensors are designed to measure additional parameters like temperature, altitude, flow, or liquid levels in addition to pressure, providing multi-functional capabilities in certain applications.
